The First Guest of the Alumni Seminar Series: Architect Esin Yıldız (Class of 2020)

As part of the “Alumni Gathering: Sharing Professional Experience” seminar series, the guest speaker at the first event held on December 12, 2025, was our 2020 graduate, Architect Esin Yıldız. In the presentation titled “Modern Facades: Design, Materials, and Function,” glass-based systems (structural glass, double-skin facades, curved glass) were discussed as the primary materials for modern facades, along with various facade solutions supported by metal (aluminum/steel), ceramics, natural stone, and GRC, illustrated with examples.

In the presentation organized by the Department of Architecture, it was emphasized that a facade is not merely an aesthetic shell; rather, it is an active architectural component that determines energy performance, daylight control, ventilation, and the building’s relationship with the city. Enriched with examples from projects by leading architectural firms worldwide, the presentation was followed with great interest by the students.
